Method 3 of 4: Avoid Point of View Breaches

Stay in the point of view for your character until you transition to a new point of view in order to avoid a point of view breach.

  • A point of view breach occurs when the character knows something that he or she couldn’t possibly know from his or her point of view. For example, even though the narrator may know that Betty knocked John out from behind, John won’t know Betty did it, unless he discovers this information from outside sources or by process of elimination.
